C4 Pre Workout Review

C4 Extreme by Cellucor is a very popular pre-workout. It’s a good stimulant based preworkout for people who want to get amped up before going to the gym.

C4 is a popular pre workout. It has Creatine, Caffeine, Beta Alanine and Arginine, these are the 4 main ingredients in any good pre workout. The label tells you to take 1-2 scoops, I feel you would need 3 scoops to get the right amounts of the ingredients to compare to the gold standard amounts of these ingredients.

3 scoops of C4 would give you:

400 mg Caffeine
This is a good amount for a 176 lb man who needs to increase his body temperature to the correct amount to have maximum strength in a early morning workout. This amount of caffeine would be overkill for a woman or a smaller person and is not ideal for a preworkout sold to the general public unless you are very confident with your caffeine intake.

3000 mg Arginine-AKG
This is the industry standard for generating Nitric Oxide (NO-) in the blood to give you a great pump and an effective workout. Studies show that to boost NO you need at least 15g but 3000mg is a common dose and Arginine has been shown to have numerous other benefits for the bodybuilder.

3000 mg Creatinine
Scientifically proven to be safe and effective with over 25 years of research. It causes so much intra muscular water expansion it has been the only legal substance to cause muscle cells to split and NEW MUSCLE cells to grow. It also gives you a rep or two extra in the 6-10 rep range. The rep range for maximum size! Creatine gives great performance enhancements and should be part of any preworkout product. 3-9g per day is ideal for people who wish to enjoy the effects of this compound

4500 mg Beta Alanine
This causes lactate to regenerate back into pyruvate making an extra ATP during glycolysis. In laymen’s terms it gives you 2 more reps in the 12-20 rep range, indirectly facilitating a bigger pump. It buffers the burn and gives you extra endurance. Be careful though this can cause an “itchy” feeling in some people. This is harmless and passes in 30-45 minutes.

??? mg Bitter Orange

This is a fancy name for synephrine. Synephrine is a mild sympathomimetic: it mimics adrenaline for fat burning but in theory not other stuff like increased blood pressure. This is like Yohimbine, just not as good. It works way better when stacked with nangarin and caffeine, which is why every diet written in the 2000’s had grapefruit (source of nangarin) in meal one: to maximize the fat burners before cardio.

Other ingredients are just vitamins with other names so it looks like you’re getting more than you are. N-Acetyl-cysteine is a liver and kidney protectant. Cellucor is counting on you not being responsible and drinking a gallon of water a day minimum so they included that so your kidneys are less likely to take damage from dehydration. you see, all pre workout products necessitate you increase your water intake to 1-1.5 gallons a day. They are just covery your and their ass adding that in.
Discussion

The caffeine and the beta alanine are high, and they are included in such amounts to create the sense of being “on something” for the user. The caffeine is a stimulant and in this form at that dose you get super high. The beta alanine makes your skin burn and itch and your stomach hurt at this dose as well. This makes the feel like its “working”. Unfortunately the Arginine is still only 3 g. Thats the right amount of arginine but only 1 form of NO precursor, the arginine. The Creatine and beta alanine give you extra reps but no extra NO.
Conclusion

C4 is popular because it is inexpensive and has good amounts of the key ingredients If you use 3 scoops. It is a solid preworkout and tastes decent. It will give you extra energy in the gym and give you.
